There is nothing like being able to play a guitar solo. Even if it is the only thing you know how to play, you always have it as a party trick and can at least do something if you ever get a guitar put in your hand.
At the same time, just picking up a guitar and learning a solo with a snap of the fingers isn’t as easy as it might sound. That said, there are a number of songs that you might think have impossible to learn guitar solos but that are actually quite straightforward and easy to learn. Here are some that you should think about learning.
One of the songs that propelled the Red Hot Chilli Peppers more towards the mainstream at the end of the 20th century, the guitar solo featured in Californication is relatively straightforward, and the gentle pace of the track means that learners can pick up their instrument and get it committed to memory fairly quickly.
As an extension of learning the solo, it is probably one of the easiest contemporary songs to learn on the guitar in full, so why not give that a shot, too?
This Queen classic is fast and furious, and while the solo definitely fits this description, it is fairly repetitive and short, and therefore easy to play a few times and remember. Your friends will love you for being able to play this track, but unlike Californication, the rest of the song might be a little too much for a beginner.
Fleetwood Mac are a common reference point when it comes to learning guitar, so it is only right that they feature on this list. There is a number of Fleetwood Mac tracks you could pick out, but Need Your Love So Bad is slow, simple, and soulful, and a great track to play if you’re only just starting to get familiar with your instrument.
If you’re a fan of Fleetwood Mac and their style, Go Your Own Way is a well-known song by the group that also features a relatively easy guitar solo.
Growing up, this is one of the tracks that we all wish we were able to play. Nirvana made it sound amazing, but the biggest thing about the song is how simple it is to play, with the guitar solo in particular not offering many great challenges, although it does provide a stunning foundation for going away and creating your own improvisations, and will inspire you to go away and become a more versatile player.
